April 7, 2025

The new season of factual, interview and debate live show Sem Censura returns with presenter Cissa Guimarães. Sem Censura’s second season with the presenter also marks 40 years since its debut on the former TVE in Rio de Janeiro, later incorporated by TV Brasil.

The program will continue to be broadcast every afternoon, Monday to Friday, from 4pm to 6pm, live on TV Brasil. With a panel of debaters who take turns throughout each day, the program welcomes artists, musicians, journalists, sociologists and psychologists, always approaching current issues. Every Friday, the program features a musical performance that makes it even more attractive.

“This premiere of the new season of Sem Censura is going to be a party. Not just the opening, but the whole season. We’ll have important debates, fun, joy and I’m very happy that we’ll be meeting again every day in the afternoon,” celebrates presenter Cissa Guimarães. “Long live Sem Censura!”

Sem Censura is one of TV Brasil’s most traditional programs, it played an important role in the country’s re-democratization and now it’s experiencing a new moment, together with EBC,” says EBC’s CEO, Jean Lima.

“It was very special to kick off the celebrations for the 40th anniversary of Sem Censura in Bahia. It’s an honor for me to be responsible for the return of Sem Censura, with Cissa Guimarães, and to be able to build this ephemeris in 2025. Completing four decades on air,  Brazilian TV is not for everyone,” says Antonia Pellegrino, Director of Content and Programming.

A history of great female presenters

Sem Censura has been part of TV Brasil ‘s programming since 1985, when it debuted on July 1 on the then TV Educativa in Rio de Janeiro with Tetê Muniz as presenter. The production became better known with the face of Leda Nagle on the panel, who presented the program from 1996 to 2016. The show promoted debates on a variety of topics and was a daily program, which became weekly in 2021, and returned in 2024 with Cissa Guimarães as host.

Conceived by journalist Fernando Barbosa Lima during the period of political reopening, Sem Censura was also presented by professionals such as Gilsse Campos, Lúcia Leme, Claudia Cruz, Beth Camarão, Marcia Peltier, Liliana Rodriguez, Eliana Monteiro, Carla Ramos, Vera Barroso and Marina Machado.

Return of the program

A classic of Brazilian television, Sem Censura returned to the public channel’s schedule almost a year ago, in February 2024. Presented by Cissa Guimarães, the program has new panels, debaters, interviews and musical appearances.

The production has revived classic points such as the semi-circle bench, but in a new way, with the presenter in the center. The soundtrack that marked the afternoons is set to a more popular rhythm. The visual identity has also been revamped, with younger elements connected to the digital universe.

The program is now going into its second season with presenter Cissa Guimarães. Sem Censura is produced

Debaters and more culture

Last year Sem Censura brought back the presence of fixed debaters, who take turns in each edition. The production brings together names such as psychologist and carnival artist Milton Cunha; comedians Dada Coelho and Fernando Caruso; actress and presenter Luana Xavier; social educator Jota Marques; cultural journalist and broadcaster Fabiane Pereira; and TV Brasil journalists Katy Navarro and Marília Arrigoni.

They alternate on the show with other professionals who work for the broadcaster, such as journalist and presenter Katy Navarro, who has hosted the program on other occasions; and journalist and digital influencer Murilo Ribeiro, or Muka.

Under the general direction of Bruno Barros, who has also presented Sem Censura in other seasons, the program is returning to its vocation of being a space for disseminating Brazilian cultural production and a reference for new artists.

Every Friday, Sem Censura brings together musical attractions who perform on stage and pay tribute to great personalities. Simone, Sandra Sá, Gal Costa, Beth Carvalho and Elis Regina were some of the stars honored. The program is directed by Leila Maia.
