Univision Delivers More Adult 18-34 Viewers than CBS During Weeknight Primetime for Fourth Consecutive Week

The Sunday night finale of Univision’s “Tu Cara Me Suena,” produced by Endemol Shine Boomdog, reached 3.8 million Total Viewers 2+, and attracted 1.9 million Total Viewers 2+, 614,000 Adults 18-49 and 271,000 Adults 18-34, marking its highest-rated telecast in its full run. The program made Univision a top-rated broadcast network in the 8:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. time slot, outperforming ABC, FOX and The CW with Adults 18-34. The reality show also topped ABC and The CW with Adults 18-49 and FOX and The CW among Total Viewers 2+. The program increased its audience in the last half-hour compared to the first half-hour by double-digits among Total Viewers 2+ (+12%) and Adults 18-49 (+16%). The finale averaged more Total Viewers 2+ (+30%), Adults 18-49 (+16%) and Adults 18-34 (+27%) in comparison to its premiere telecast. The series delivered double-digit audience growth week-over-week among Total Viewers 2+ (+22%), Adults 18-49 (+12%) and Adults 18-34 (+18%). The show also grew the network’s 8:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. time period by double-digit margins versus the comparable Sunday night in 2019 among Total Viewers 2+ (+59%), Adults 18-49 (+32%) and Adults 18-34 (+31%). The reality competition series also out-delivered Telemundo in the time slot with double-to-triple digit audience advantages among Total Viewers 2+ (+181% adv.), Adults 18-49 (+86% adv.) and Adults 18-34 (+130% adv.).
On Saturday night, live coverage of Liga MX propelled Univision to the No. 1 broadcast network ranking, ahead of ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX for the entire night with Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34. Featuring back-to-back soccer matchups between Leon vs. Puebla and America vs. Chivas Guadalajara, Liga MX delivered an average audience of 1.9 million Total Viewers 2+, 1.0 million Adults 18-49 and 462,000 Adults 18-34. The doubleheader increased the network’s 7:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. time slot by triple-digit margins week-over-week and year-over-year across all key demographics. The America vs. Chivas Guadalajara game drew 2.5 million Total Viewers 2+, 1.4 million Adults 18-49 and 592,000 Adults 18-34, marking the highest-rated soccer match on any network and in any language in 2020. The match also ranked as the No. 1 program on broadcast television among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34, while finishing as the No. 2 program among Total Viewers 2+. The sports event also positioned Univision as the No. 1 Spanish-language network with triple-digit audience advantages over Telemundo for the entire night among Total Viewers 2+, Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34.
Univision delivered double-digit week-over-week primetime audience growth among Total Viewers 2+ (+13% to 1.5 million), Adults 18-49 (+19% to 606,000) and Adults 18-34 (+29% to 267,000) for the second consecutive week. Univision grew its primetime audience year-over-year among Total Viewers 2+ (+10%), Adults 18-49 (+6%) and Adults 18-34 (+4%). Univision also ranked as the fifth most-watched broadcast network during primetime for the entire week among Total Viewers 2+, Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34, ahead of The CW.
Univision out-delivered one or more of the English-language broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, NBC or FOX) on every night last week among Adults 18-34 and on four out of seven nights among Adults 18-49.
Univision finished as the No. 1 Spanish-language network in primetime for the tenth consecutive week in the current 2020/2021 season with double-digit audience advantages over Telemundo among Total Viewers 2+ (+69% adv.), Adults 18-49 (+61% adv.) and Adults 18-34 (+61% adv.).
Univision attracted 1.4 million Total Viewers 2+, 550,000 Adults 18-49 and 241,000 Adults 18-34 during weeknight primetime. Univision out-delivered CBS by double-digit margins among Adults 18-34 (+13% adv.) for the fourth straight week during the Monday to Friday 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. time period. Univision also ranked as the No. 1 Spanish-language network for the tenth consecutive week in the current 2020/2021 season in the Monday through Friday 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. time slot, outperforming Telemundo with double-digit audience advantages among Total Viewers 2+ (+43% adv.), Adults 18-49 (+39% adv.) and Adults 18-34 (+33% adv.).
At 8 p.m., “Vencer el Desamor” delivered 1.5 million, 519,000 Adults 18-49 and 230,000 Adults 18-34 during the week. The novela series also drove Univision to a first-place finish on Spanish-language television, outperforming Telemundo by double-digit margins among Total Viewers 2+ (+104% adv.), Adults 18-49 (+86% adv.) and Adults 18-34 (+76% adv.). The series also drew in more Adults 18-34 than first-run episodes of ABC’s “The Goldbergs,” “For Life,” “The Conners,” “American Housewife” and “Black-ish;” CBS’ “Bull” and “S.W.A.T;” NBC’s “Transplant;” FOX’s “Cosmos: Possible Worlds,” “Next,” “Bob’s Burgers,” “Filthy Rich” and “LA’s Finest” as well as The CW’s “Pandora,” “The Outpost” and “Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life.”
At 9 p.m., “Imperio de Mentiras” averaged 1.2 million Total Viewers 2+, 443,000 Adults 18-49 and 190,000 Adults 18-34. The series also outperformed Telemundo head-to-head in the 9 p.m. hour among Total Viewers 2+ (+3% adv.). The program delivered more Adult 18-34 viewers than first-run episodes of ABC’s “The Goldbergs,” “For Life,” “The Conners,” “American Housewife” and “Black-ish;” CBS’ “S.W.A.T;” NBC’s “Transplant;” FOX’s “Cosmos: Possible Worlds,” “Next,” “Filthy Rich” and “LA’s Finest” as well as The CW’s “Pandora,” “The Outpost” and “Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life.”
At 10 p.m., “Dulce Ambición” increased its audience week-over-week among Total Viewers 2+ (+3% to 1.1 million), Adults 18-49 (+5% to 399,000) and Adults 18-34 (+5% to 136,000). The novela series also positioned Univision as the No. 1 Spanish-language network, out-delivering Telemundo among Total Viewers 2+ (+12% adv.). “Dulce Ambición” attracted more Adults 18-34 than first-run episodes of ABC’s “Black-ish;” FOX”s “Cosmos: Possible Worlds,” “Next” and “Filthy Rich;” as well as The CW’s “Pandora,” “The Outpost” and “Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life.”
On Thursday night, back-to-back Liga MX doubleheader matches between Tigres UANL vs. Cruz Azul (7:30 p.m.-10:00 p.m.) and Pachuca vs. UNAM (10:00 p.m.-12:08 a.m.) made Univision the No. 2 broadcast network among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34 for the entire night, outperforming ABC, CBS, NBC and The CW during primetime. The back-to-back soccer games – Tigres UANL vs. Cruz Azul and Pachuca vs. UNAM – delivered an average audience of 1.6 million Total Viewers 2+, 837,000 Adults 18-49 and 413,000 Adults 18-34. The Liga MX matches delivered audience growth week-over-week to the network’s 7:30pm to 12:00 am time slot among Adults 18-34 (+5%). The games also increased the network’s time period by double-digits among Total Viewers 2+ (+19%), Adults 18-49 (+32%) and Adults 18-34 (+40%). The soccer matchups positioned Univision as the No. 1 Spanish-language network, out-delivering Telemundo by triple-digit margins among all key demos during the 7:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. time slot.
Univision’s Sunday night news program, “Aquí y Ahora” delivered 1.2 million Total Viewers 2+, 366,000 Adults 18-49 and 132,000 Adults 18-34, topping FOX in the 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. time slot among Total Viewers 2+. The primetime news magazine also outperformed Telemundo’s special airing of “Al Rojo Vivo” head-to-head in the 7 p.m. hour by double-to-triple digit margins among Total Viewers 2+ (+106% adv.), Adults 18-49 (+79% adv.) and Adults 18-34 (+32% adv.).
The Sunday night broadcast of “Sal y Pimienta” positioned Univision ahead of ABC with double-digit audience advantages among Adults 18-49 (+60% adv.) and Adults 18-34 (+88% adv.) in the 10:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. time slot. The series also delivered double-digit audience growth week-over-week among Total Viewers 2+ (+48% to 1.5 million), Adults 18-49 (+37% to 514,000) and Adults 18-34 (+17% to 152,000). This marked the show’s highest-rated telecast in the current 2020/2021 season among Total Viewers 2+ and Adults 18-49. The program propelled Univision to outperform Telemundo in the 10:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. time period by double-to-triple digit margins among Total Viewers 2+ (+155% adv.), Adults 18-49 (+62% adv.) and Adults 18-34 (+33% adv.).
During the November 2020 sweeps, Univision attracted 1.2 million Total Viewers 2+, 482,000 Adults 18-49 and 197,000 Adults 18-34 in primetime, out-delivering Telemundo by double-digit margins among Total Viewers 2+ (+25% adv.), Adults 18-49 (+27% adv.) and Adults 18-34 (+32% adv.). This marked Univision’s 29th consecutive November sweep as the No. 1 network on Spanish-language television among Total Viewers 2+, as well as the 27th time in any November sweep among Adults 18-49 and 26th time with Adults 18-34 since 1992 when Nielsen began measuring Hispanic Television.
